International Projects of the Vadnais Heights Rotary
Rotary began immunizing childern against polio in 1985 and became the driving partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988. The GPEI also includes the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as partner organizations.
To date Rotary has contributed more than $900 million to the eradication effort. Rotary's continuing responsibilities are fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer recruitment.
In 1988 polio was endemic in 125 countries, today that number is down to three: Nigeria, Afganistan, and Pakistan.
Honduras Water Project
Tom Holly as been our lead in an international development project in San Fernando, Honduras.
Rotary has helped this village build a water system to supply each house with running water. Rotary as also helped to build a school compound with four buildings, a bathroom and a kitchen with running water.
In addition to the water system. We have also been providing scholarships to students to empower them to further help their community.
